Preacher’s Study Blog Statistics

Preacher’s Study Blog is meeting an important niche in the world of online publishing. Each month we serve almost 4,000 pages to people looking for serious Christian Bible study. Most of our U.S. visitors come from Texas, followed by California, Florida, Alabama and Georgia for the top 5. We have had visitors from all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Internationally the top 5 are, USA, Canada, The UK, the Philippines and Australia.

Our growth has been steady over the past year. Over 20,000 people (unique computers)  have viewed at least one article on the site in the past year. That’s good news because people are being exposed to the message of Jesus Christ. Many prefer  the privacy oft heir own home as  they explore areas that are new and unfamiliar to them.

Most of our visitors come from Google although Twitter and Facebook supply hefty numbers too.

The top articles? In Order:

  1. 5 Ways to Stop Gossip
  2. Stop Gossip in the Church
  3. Shut My Mouth: 5 Ways to Stop Gossiping
  4. Church of Christ Music: What’s the Big Deal With  A Piano Anyway?
  5. Church Division – Part 1
Three of the top five are still, year after year, the top articles. Gossip and divisiveness are a major problem.
I deeply appreciate your continued support of the Preacher’s Study Blog. I know you do not always agree. That’s fine. I am happy to stimulate and challenge your thinking.

Preacher’s Study Year In Review – 2010

It’s always fun to look back at the year and see what the most popular posts were. It’s often surprising and not really what I would think. Here are the top 10 posts of 2010 based on the number of readers.

  1. 5 Ways to Stop Gossip
  2. Stop Gossip in the Church
  3. Church of Christ Music: What’s the Big Deal About a Piano Anyway?
  4. Understanding Bible Covenants
  5. Church Division –  Part 2
  6. Ways to Stop Gossip – Your Response
  7. Shut My Mouth – 5 Ways to Stop Being A Gossip
  8. Church Division – Part 1
  9. Baptism of Fire
  10. Internet Pornography – An Update

It’s sadly surprising that 4 of the 10 deal with gossip. And if you include the two articles on church division which deal in part with gossip you find that 60% of the hits reflect a concern about loose talk. Most of the readers of these articles came from people doing generic searches on Google, Yahoo or Bing. It reinforces my fear that gossip is a large and growing problem in the church.

Although we wrote a number of articles about doctrinal issues there were only 2 that made the top 10. I’m not sure how to understand what seems to be a lack of interest of doctrinal issues. A quick look at Christendom today reveals little interest in doctrinal purity. In some places “doctrine” has become a dirty word as some people continue to seek God through their own ways instead of the ones clearly revealed in Scripture.

Finally, pornography again made the list. The problem of cheap, quick and anonymous porn continues to plague our families and our communities.

2010 was the biggest year numerically for the blog with about 12,000 visits in the last 12 months. That number has increased year-by-year ever since we began keeping records. That’s not too big by internet standards but we are thankful for every visitor and every comment. I hope you will help us spread the word to your family and friends.

As always, we hope to hear from you with requests and questions.

To each of you we wish a wonderful 2011. May you be blessed as your glorify our Father.

Update on Comments

It has always been my goal to encourage comments here on the blog.Anyone and everyone is asked to comment or ask any question. You do not have to be a preacher or even a religious person. Anyone may comment.

We get quite a bit of spam but it is almost always caught by the software before making it into publication. Because the software is so good at catching spam I am relaxing one of the rules which required you to enter both your name and email before publishing a comment.

Now users may comment in a fully anonymous way. You will not be identified on your comment unless you choose to add your name, website or email address but you are not required to do so. I hope this will encourage more comments here on the blog.

Also, because of the expected increase in comments I have clarified and codified the policies of this web site. You may see them on the Policies page.

Have You Been To The Archives?

We have been posting here for over two years now and in that time we have accumulated many articles on a wide variety of subjects. Of course you can easily search for any topic by entering your search term in the box to the right but maybe you would be better served by visiting our archives. It is arranged by categories and a click will bring up the articles in that particular category.

Why not take a moment now and visit the Preacher’s Study Blog archives?

Archives Available

The Preacher’s Study Blog is pleased to offer a complete archive of all of our articles dating back to July of 2008. Visit the Archives page to find articles on a wide variety of subjects. You can also access the page from the tab at the very top of this page.

I have left the comments on all articles in hopes that your thoughts will be stimulated to offer some addenda or criticism of the article. Please leave your comments for all to see.

Preacher’s Study is Back

We’ve had some tough days over the past week which necessitated our move to a new hosting home and the transfer of all of our files. That has been a difficult task but we are near the finish line.

There is more work to do. There are many things that must be fine-tuned before we are fully back. However the articles are available and readable. I hope they will help your Christian life. Some pictures are missing and we are working to restore them. Please be patient.

Look for a fuller description later in the month and new articles which will begin appearing Sunday morning. Again, thank you for your patience!

A Word to the Reader

We just want to say thank you for reading the Preacher’s Study Blog. It is a work of love that I enjoy immensely. I know that we disagree sometimes but at least it causes you to think and hopefully turn to the Bible to find answers to the all important questions of life. If I can get one person to study a little more then the work is a success.

We have been out of town quite a bit this summer and the blog has not been of the quality you deserve. Please know that most of the traveling is done for the year and we should be back on a regular posting schedule. One thing that helps is to know what articles you would like to see here. Please drop a line and let me know. We will add it to our schedule, research it and produce a post. That would actually help us a lot.

Again thanks for visiting. We consider your readership a great compliment.

Speaking in Tuscaloosa, Alabama

I’ve been honored to be asked to preach this weekend in the small city of Vance, Alabama as part of a 2nd year anniversary for the Mercedes Drive church of Christ. Vance is the city where Mercedes Benz built a automobile manufacturing plant several years ago. Located along I20/59 between Tuscaloosa and Birmingham, the area is a rapidly growing commercial sector with many new neighborhoods springing up through the area.

Mercedes Drive was planted two years ago with the support and encouragement of churches throughout Tuscaloosa County. I look forward to spending the weekend with them. I’ve been asked to speak on topics of perseverance and pressing onward in our Christian fight. The congregation is taking this effort seriously and have rented a civic center in Vance for their sessions Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I am honored and blessed to be able to be a part of these activities.

I am excited that my wife, Bobbi, will be able to travel with me. It should be a great weekend! Terry Cagle is speaking in my absence at Eastern Shore Sunday morning and Dave Pahman from Mobile Christian will be here Sunday night.and will do his usual fine job.

Preacher’s Study Gets A New Look

I’ve changed the look of Preacher’s Study in order to make it more pleasing to the eye and easier to read. The previous layout required entirely too much work to make little changes.

The new “Thesis” theme that you see here is top of the line and cutting edge for behind the scenes operations. You will continue to see some gentle changes over the weekend as we tweak things. I would love to have your comments and thoughts on the new, simple look.
