Preacher’s Study Year In Review – 2010

It’s always fun to look back at the year and see what the most popular posts were. It’s often surprising and not really what I would think. Here are the top 10 posts of 2010 based on the number of readers.

  1. 5 Ways to Stop Gossip
  2. Stop Gossip in the Church
  3. Church of Christ Music: What’s the Big Deal About a Piano Anyway?
  4. Understanding Bible Covenants
  5. Church Division –  Part 2
  6. Ways to Stop Gossip – Your Response
  7. Shut My Mouth – 5 Ways to Stop Being A Gossip
  8. Church Division – Part 1
  9. Baptism of Fire
  10. Internet Pornography – An Update

It’s sadly surprising that 4 of the 10 deal with gossip. And if you include the two articles on church division which deal in part with gossip you find that 60% of the hits reflect a concern about loose talk. Most of the readers of these articles came from people doing generic searches on Google, Yahoo or Bing. It reinforces my fear that gossip is a large and growing problem in the church.

Although we wrote a number of articles about doctrinal issues there were only 2 that made the top 10. I’m not sure how to understand what seems to be a lack of interest of doctrinal issues. A quick look at Christendom today reveals little interest in doctrinal purity. In some places “doctrine” has become a dirty word as some people continue to seek God through their own ways instead of the ones clearly revealed in Scripture.

Finally, pornography again made the list. The problem of cheap, quick and anonymous porn continues to plague our families and our communities.

2010 was the biggest year numerically for the blog with about 12,000 visits in the last 12 months. That number has increased year-by-year ever since we began keeping records. That’s not too big by internet standards but we are thankful for every visitor and every comment. I hope you will help us spread the word to your family and friends.

As always, we hope to hear from you with requests and questions.

To each of you we wish a wonderful 2011. May you be blessed as your glorify our Father.

Update on Comments

It has always been my goal to encourage comments here on the blog.Anyone and everyone is asked to comment or ask any question. You do not have to be a preacher or even a religious person. Anyone may comment.

We get quite a bit of spam but it is almost always caught by the software before making it into publication. Because the software is so good at catching spam I am relaxing one of the rules which required you to enter both your name and email before publishing a comment.

Now users may comment in a fully anonymous way. You will not be identified on your comment unless you choose to add your name, website or email address but you are not required to do so. I hope this will encourage more comments here on the blog.

Also, because of the expected increase in comments I have clarified and codified the policies of this web site. You may see them on the Policies page.

Thank You to Robertsdale

My thanks to Slate Moore and the fine brethren at the Robertsdale church of Christ for their invitation to speak tonight on the subject of “Kindness.” This congregation is in  the middle of a Fantastic Fall series on Wednesday nights and I was honored to their speaker tonight.

Slate and his lovely wife Julie have labored at Robertsdale for many years and Bobbi and I count them as dear friends. Unfortunately our schedules keep us so busy that we haven’t seen each other in many months. We still appreciate their dedication to the cause of Christ.

Preacher’s Study is Back

We’ve had some tough days over the past week which necessitated our move to a new hosting home and the transfer of all of our files. That has been a difficult task but we are near the finish line.

There is more work to do. There are many things that must be fine-tuned before we are fully back. However the articles are available and readable. I hope they will help your Christian life. Some pictures are missing and we are working to restore them. Please be patient.

Look for a fuller description later in the month and new articles which will begin appearing Sunday morning. Again, thank you for your patience!
